Bhartiya Gramotthan Sanstha was founded on 23rd Dec 1989, under the societies registration Act, 1860. The name of the organization signifies " Organisation meant for development of indian village". Gradually the organization.

Late Shri P. M. Chandola

Founder Director & Former President Of Bhartiya Gramotthan Sanstha From 23/12/1989 to 13/09/2019

Earlier Late Shri P. M. Chandola worked in Gandhi Ashram from 1954 to 1961. He looked after the Production Centre and Showroom there. He got initiation and training from Gandhi Ashram, Delhi and Meerut. He was employee in Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 1963 to 1988 where he looked after Production cum Income Generation Activities of the Department.

In 1988, he took voluntary retirement from Khadi Commission to start his lifelong aim of providing self employment opportunities to the rural women of Uttarakhand. He initially started a small unit of weaving shawls and pankhi at Vill- Dandi, Dist- Dehradun at his residence. This unit produced shawls and pankhi made of Uttarakhand wool which is a product of sheeps of Uttarakhand After that he rented a shop at Kailash Gate, Rishikesh and associated many women beneficiaries with him and provided them with many trainings.

For achieving its target the organization emphasizes on local raw material based employment. Apart from this, the other working areas of the organization is handicraft, handloom(wool, cotton, jute), jute carpet, giving commercial training to the women self help group (SHG) for income generation, helping SHG in marketing of their products, imparting technical knowledge, forestation, non formal education, environment related programme, cultivating medicinal plants, implementing various health programme based on Indian medical system with the participation of the mob is the major objective of the organization.

Our Objectives:

Self-sustainable development of handicrafts through community improvement. Integrated development of the community through women and child development. Implementation of the programme for the overall socio-economic development of weaker section.

1. To mobilize women members of underprivileged families of rural areas into women self help groups and conducting skill development training programs for their capacity building

2. To encourage and promote women members of self help group for self employment through conducting training programs for their skill development and assisting them to access main stream banking services.

3. Formation of cooperatives/federation/cluster and producers groups of Self help groups and artisans engaged in production in farm and non farm sector.

4. To provide raw materials, trainings, value chain development and marketing support services to self-employments self help group members and artisans.

5. To promote and encourage traditional crafts of Uttarakhand and providing technical, financial and innovation support to artisans working in handloom and handicraft sector.

6. Production and promotion of woolen products manufactured by Uttarakhand’s local wool known as “Harsil Wool” and generation of self employment in handloom sector.

7. To create awareness among self help groups and rural artisans about local and allied natural fibers like Bheemal, Hemp, Nettle, Pine, Sheep Wool and Ram bans and encourage and promote them for production of handicraft products.

8. To implement government’s social welfare and development programs as an implementation agency in livelihood, skill development, education, health and environment conservation sectors.

9. To develop basic infrastructure in rural area under various social and rural development programs supported by Government Departments and Non-Government Organizations.
